Log File not recognized

Our log files are now being stored in mdi format instead of the .log format they were originally stored in. When we retrieve them from the database they are being converted to .TXT format. I have even tried changing the extension to .LOG but am getting "No Valid data processed, because the file is not recognized". Our server group said the change in the way the logs are captured is a microsoft thing. Any ideas on what changed in the way microsoft is doing their log files and how to make them compatible with the funnelweb analyzer software?
